Graduation year from MPH program: December 2021

As a professional in the field of public health, my journey through the MPH program at the University of Connecticut has been transformative and instrumental in shaping my capabilities for my current role as the State of Connecticut Refugee and Immigrant Health Coordinator at the Department of Public Health.

The comprehensive curriculum of the MPH program provided me with a strong foundation in key public health principles, research methodologies, and analytical skills. The coursework not only equipped me with a deep understanding of epidemiology, biostatistics, and health policy but also fostered critical thinking and problem-solving abilities crucial for addressing complex public health challenges.

The program’s emphasis on practical experiences and fieldwork was invaluable. Engaging in real-world projects allowed me to apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations, enhancing my ability to navigate the dynamic landscape of public health practice. Collaborative projects, such as my involvement in the COVID-19 contact tracing program during my tenure, provided hands-on experience in crisis management and response strategies.

Furthermore, the MPH program encouraged interdisciplinary collaboration, mirroring the multifaceted nature of public health interventions. This interdisciplinary approach has proven indispensable in my current role, where I coordinate and manage refugee health services across diverse areas, from initial medical screening to health education and community outreach.

The supportive faculty and mentors at UConn played a pivotal role in my academic and professional development. Their guidance, encouragement, and wealth of experience enriched my learning journey and inspired me to strive for excellence in the field of public health.

In essence, my MPH degree from the University of Connecticut has been the cornerstone of my success in navigating the complex landscape of public health. It has not only equipped me with the knowledge and skills necessary for my role but instilled in me a passion for making a positive impact on the health and well-being of diverse communities. I am grateful for the invaluable experiences and insights gained during my time at UConn, shaping me into a capable and compassionate public health professional.
