What influenced your decision to pursue a Master of Public Health at UConn?: I wanted to a pursue a dual MD/MPH degree in order to combine my clinical training with an emphasis on global health and health promotion on a larger scale. I am passionate about improving heath equity and addressing health disparities. As an aspiring anesthesiologist, I hope to combine my public health ambitions with my career in the OR to make a difference.
Background: My family is originally from Cuenca, Ecuador and we immigrated to the U.S when I was 7 years old. Although we first moved to NYC, I’ve lived most of my life in CT and have been able to go back to my home country to visit my family and also do a medical mission trip there. I matriculated into UConn School of Medicine in August 2021 with the intention of pursuing an MD/MPH dual degree because of my background and growing up in underserved communities.
Life Outside Work and School: Outside of school, I really love to travel, take day trips into nearby cities to explore, play pickleball, and go salsa dancing!
Your immediate (next 1-5 years) career goals: My career goals in the next few years are to successfully match and complete an anesthesiology residency program.
