Discipline and Date of Your BA or BS Degree: Sociology, 2018

What Influenced Your Decision to Pursue a Master of Public Health at UConn?: During my master’s studies in Sociology, I worked on a paper examining the influence of structural factors on COVID-19 mortality in the U.S. The research articles I explored while working on this project sparked my passion for public health and inspired me to pursue a Master of Public Health degree.

Background: I am from Sylhet, Bangladesh, a small but beautiful country in South Asia. I completed my bachelor’s degree in Sociology at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology in Sylhet. Later, I moved to the United States to pursue my master’s degree in Sociology at Wichita State University, Kansas. During my graduate studies, I worked on several projects related to health disparities. The knowledge and experiences I gained through this work motivated me to take the next step toward a journey in public health.

Life Outside Work and School: I love going to the gym, creating videos, drinking coffee and speaking to my family.

Your Immediate (Next 1–5 Years) Career Goals: After completing this program, my goal is to join a PhD program in Public Health. I dream to become a professor at a research-oriented university. Nothing would be more fulfilling than knowing that my work contributes to helping people live healthier lives, even on a very small scale.
