What influenced your decision to pursue a Master of Public Health at UConn?: The MPH degree represents an invaluable opportunity for me to deepen my expertise, refine my analytical capabilities and cultivate innovative strategies for combating health inequities that I have so far started to acquire with my undergraduate and medical school careers. With an advanced understanding of public health principles and methodologies, I able to have a better chance at spearheading initiatives that can begin to dismantle systemic barriers and foster inclusive healthcare environments. Empowered by the chance of having this advanced degree, I am hopeful to be at the forefront of shaping a future where healthcare is truly universal, compassionate, and equitable for all.
Background: I was born in Arequipa, Peru, and moved to the US when I was 5 years old. I grew up in Connecticut and moved to NYC for 7 years to go to NYU and do research before returning to Connecticut for medical school at UConn. I am currently a 3rd year medical student and will be embarking on my MPH journey this fall. I am very passionate about Lifestyle Medicine and Social Determinants of Health. I look forward to meeting and growing with my colleagues this fall!
Life Outside Work and School: I enjoy spending time with my family: my husband, my parents, my brother and my two puppies (Jax and Max). In my free time, if I am not walking or playing with my dogs or spending time with my family, I enjoy playing the violin, reading, and exercising.
Your immediate (next 1-5 years) career goals: In the next 1-5 years, I would like be finishing residency and starting my career as an attending incorporating lifestyle medicine and public health in my practice. I would also like to be a physician who is involved with the community by volunteering at community events to give education about chronic conditions, lifestyle modifications, etc.
